And we're back.

August 11th was the last post. i've been busy, though not particularly with art. visitors. parties. adventures. you know how it is. here is a haphazard recap, where i will try to remember dates and what happened where and such.

Monday, August 11th, I did indeed do a quick craft. there were two pieces of broken records that i picked up off the floor from the Mr. Brainwash art show. i had picked them up with the intention of making earring with them, then promptly forgot they were in my dress' pocket. making earrings is easy! just heat up a safety pin with a lighter, and jam it through something:

Saturday i broke out the watercolors. jessica and i took an impromptu trip to target and, as it turns out, they love putting school supplies on sale right before school. so i wound up buying some watercolors and colored pencils. the pencils because they were 62 cents, but the water colors because that medium keeps being discussed around me, and i don't think i've touched them since middle school. i did some blind contour drawings, and then painted over them. i've included the magazine pictures i was drawing from so you can get an idea of what was happening:

I AM HAVING PROBLEMS POSTING PICTURES BLOGGER. THIS MAKES ME SO FRUSTRATED I TYPE IN ALL CAPS. DAMN.

boom boom, tweet tweet

Friday: jessica and i went to the "88 drum thing" as i've taken to calling it. a bunch of drummers with their drum kits surrounding a stage with a few more drummers totaling to, you guessed it, 88 drummers. apparently there were some "known dummers" there, though i had no idea.
based on this and the concert i attended on thursday, i've decided that viewing other people's art will also count as a drill. basically, if it is inspiring, it is doing exactly what i hope these art drills will do for me..
i even took some video. not too exciting, but hey. there are a lot more (ie, better) videos you can find online if you're interested.

Saturday: after a delightful (though non-art related) brunch, i came home and did not clean my room. i note this because that was what i had intended to do. jessica came home and (un?)successfully dyed a skirt. vaguely remembering art drills, and realizing i had been intending to put it up for a month, i did a little decorating. back around christmas i bought this "mosaic garland" and some glittery birds to put up in the new place- and look, i followed through:

Sunday: i think i dropped the ball here. i did see Pineapple Express though. that was sweet, though not necessarily art. lots of giggles.

Monday: i'm going to do a little art drill right now. not sure what. i'll update soon and you'll know!

hello and welcome.

i am going to attempt to do an art drill on a somewhat daily basis. this is inspired by two things. first, jesse's monthly challenge (re: art guy july), where i was jealous that he was attempting to do something art related for an entire month. second, from amanda palmer's eyebrows. she refers to painting on her signature swirls (in lieu of "normal" brows) as a daily art drill. forcing herself to start each day with a bit of creative flair.

so, every day (though realistically, every couple days) i will try to do an art drill of sorts. something quick, but creative. sort of forced, but mostly something to keep my wheels turning, my motor running. if you have any suggestions, i'm happy to try them.

tonight, i will count dancing without abandon inside my car as my art drill. well, as much as one can without driving out of the lane and into a bus. including, but not limited to: "happiness is overrated" - tate, "glory of love" - say anything, and "helter skelter" -...really? really. yeah. you know.

xoxo
